Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
For forty years, the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program has helped people uncover inner calm and acceptance and respond more effectively to stress, pain, illness, depression, anxiety, sleeplessness, and other life challenges.
Jenny is a fully certified MBSR teacher and has helped numerous people over the years unlock their potential and address specific concerns.
The group-based course runs for 2.5 hours per week for 8 weeks. For participants in NSW, it includes one supremely relaxing day at a mindfulness retreat in the Blue Mountains (pending COVID restrictions).
While the MBSR is not therapy or counselling, it is a gentle way of learning how to access and cultivate your innate ability to care for yourself and to find greater balance and peace. It’s mind training that everyone can benefit from.
The course involves group discussion, education about stress physiology, gentle stretching, elements of Hatha yoga, and opportunities to learn various meditation methods. By the end of the course, you’ll have a repertoire of meditations to support you with your ongoing self-care. You do not need any prior experience with meditation or yoga.
Participants receive:
A pre-course consultation to discuss your specific situation, the program and what to expect
26 hours of tuition
A detailed workbook
Ongoing access to recorded guided practices, including a range of meditations and body awareness movement practices
Education about stress physiology
The opportunity to meet like-minded people
Access to Jenny in between classes and after the course finishes
Invitation to alumni events such as the free drop-in practice group every fortnight and one-day retreats
Is MBSR evidence based?
Yes, the MBSR program is evidence-based. It was initially created in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and has been extensively studied since. The MBSR is used by governmental bodies, schools, prisons, corporate entities and many others worldwide.
The MBSR’s framework has roots in various fields including cognitive psychology. A practical and pragmatic course, the MBSR program uses relatively intensive training in mindfulness meditation and body awareness practices to help people gain resilience and live happier and healthier lives — both on a personal level and in an organisational setting.
Everyday Mindfulness
Everyday Mindfulness, taught in person in the Blue Mountains, is all about you. Your wellbeing, your relationships, your self-kindness, and your ability to meet the challenges of everyday life.
The program supports you to become increasingly more present, mindful of what’s important, engaged, and centred. With regular mindfulness practice in your everyday life, it enables you to face life’s challenges with clarity, flexibility, self-compassion, and the inner resources to be with what is. We’ll tap into your inner well of energy, happiness, tranquillity, and ease.
